Perth’s Reserves side narrowly went down to East Fremantle in the WAFL Preliminary Final at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday drawing their 2012 season to a close.

With the winner to play Claremont next week in the Grand Final stakes were always going to be high in the match. Unfortunately Perth were slow to start and trailed by 22 points at quarter time. The Demons played some much better team football in the second term booting 4 goals to 2 to close the Shark’s lead to just 6 points at half time.

The Sharks certainly gained control of match in the 3rd term as they piled on 6 goals to 1 to lead by a comfortable margin of 34 points at the last change. With everything to play for Perth came out really fighting in the last quarter and were continuing to pepper the goals.

In the end though the fast finishing Demons could only manage an inaccurate 4 goals 7 to the Sharks 2 points to lose a thriller by 5 points.

Better players for Perth included their midfielders in Matt Rogers, Ben Noakes, Michael Mather and Cameron Manuel. Christian Eyres played a solid game in the ruck and Brad Fry finished with 3 majors.

All eyes will now turn to the Sandover Medal on Monday night with Perth Captain Ross Young likely to poll well and a chance to repeat his win in 2009.
