Demons no match for Royals

East Perth showed up Perth’s lack of height all over the ground on Saturday as they rotated their tall players of Callum Sinclair, Paul Johnson, Scott Lycett, Fraser McInnes and Josh Smith in a dominant display to defeat the Demons by 80 points at Lathlain Park.

Kicking with the use of the breeze Perth hit the scoreboard in the first minute of play through Captain Paul Bevan. The Royals soon responded through big man Callum Sinclair and then another to Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls.

At quarter time Perth were just in touch with East Perth trailing by 15 points. The second term saw the visitors take complete control of the match as they constantly rotated their tall players to which Perth had no response to.

With a tall forward line the Royals booted an amazing 10 goals straight to Perth’s solidarity goal and took a massive lead of 64 points into half time.

The second half was always going to be a case of damage control for Perth and to their credit they at least tightened up on their opponents as scoring for both sides became more difficult.

Cale Morton was trying hard in the midfield but lacked support from others around him. Gerald Ugle looked dangerous at times in Perth’s forward line and hit Callum Collard on the chest who converted truly at the half way mark of the term.

By three quarter time Perth had at least limited East Perth’s scoring options as the Royals took a lead of 12 goals into the last change after booting 4 goals to 3.

The last quarter again saw the Royals completely test a small and overworked Perth backline that simply had no match especially for the likes of Sinclair and Scott Lycett who both kicked early goals for the Royals in the last term.

The Demons did manage a couple of late goals to Ugle, who booted his 3^rd and another to Reese Richardson but in the end the margin of 80 points was a true indication of the Royals complete control of the match.

Perth had few players that contributed for all four quarters on Saturday with Cale Morton playing well picking up 26 possessions and Ugle kicking 3 goals.

Next week Perth travels to Kalgoorlie to play Subiaco.
